Shodo is still taught in every Japanese primary school, and the tools have not changed in a thousand years. This set brings them together: a slate ink stone, a pine-soot ink stick, a large brush for characters and a small one for signatures, a felt mat, a brass paperweight and fifty sheets of hanshi practice paper.
Grinding your own ink takes a few minutes and is half the point. A folded instruction card shows the basic strokes and how to hold the brush.
